Skills for the Energy Transition – PHAETHON to Host ETIP SNET Regional Workshop

The PHAETHON Centre of Excellence at the University of Cyprus will host the ETIP SNET Regional Workshop 2026, titled “Skills for the Energy Transition – Upskilling the Southern Europe Energy Workforce”, on 20 May 2026 in Nicosia, Cyprus.
The workshop is organised by ETIP SNET, supported by the SG-SKILL project, and hosted by PHAETHON CoE. It will bring together policymakers, industry representatives, academia, research institutions, and students from across Southern and Eastern Europe to address one of the most pressing challenges of the energy transition: the need to equip the workforce with the right skills.
The energy transition is not only a technological transformation but also a profound skills transformation. As digitalisation and decarbonisation reshape the energy system — through renewable energy integration, smart grids, artificial intelligence, big data analytics, cybersecurity, and advanced energy management systems — the demand for new and updated competencies is rapidly increasing.
🔍 Key Questions
In this context, the workshop will address the following key questions:
- What skills will be critical by 2030?
- Where are the most significant gaps today?
- How can education and training systems evolve to address these needs?
💡 What to Expect
The programme will feature keynote speeches, expert presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions designed to foster dialogue and co-create solutions. Participants will also have the opportunity to exchange best practices, engage with ongoing European initiatives including ETIP SNET and the SG-SKILL project, and network with stakeholders from across the region.
The event will take place in person at the University of Cyprus, with the option for online participation.
