PHAETHON CoE Chairman Meets Ambassador of Oman to Strengthen EMMENA Energy R&I Cooperation

Meeting forms part of an ongoing series of diplomatic engagements to support the establishment of the EMMENA Sustainable Energy Research and Innovation Platform

The Chairman of the PHAETHON Centre of Excellence (CoE) Board of Directors, Prof. Constantinos Christofides, held a fruitful meeting on 29 April 2026 with H.E. Mr. Mohamed Abdallah Awad Al-Nahdi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Sultanate of Oman in Nicosia.

The meeting is part of an ongoing series of engagements with ambassadors of Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa (EMMENA) countries, aimed at supporting the establishment of a regional Sustainable Energy Research and Innovation (R&I) Platform, coordinated by PHAETHON CoE.

During the meeting, Prof. Christofides presented the Centre’s vision and mission, as well as its key activities, highlighting the benefits of fostering collaboration with universities and research and innovation (R&I) institutions across the EMMENA region. Such collaboration is expected to address common regional challenges in the field of green energy through joint research, innovation, training, and educational initiatives.

The initiative foresees Cyprus serving as a hub for dialogue and cooperation, facilitating partnerships among academic and research institutions, the organisation of regional meetings, and the development of joint studies and proposals.

In autumn, PHAETHON CoE plans to organise a workshop in Cyprus with the participation of representatives from universities, R&I institutions, and other stakeholders from across the EMMENA region. The workshop will aim to explore potential areas of collaboration and define concrete next steps.

His Excellency the Ambassador welcomed the initiative and expressed his readiness to facilitate connections with relevant entities in Oman interested in supporting and participating in the development of the EMMENA Platform.
