PHAETHON CoE Chairman Continues EMMENA Outreach with Meeting with Hon. Consul of Bahrain

Discussions focus on regional energy cooperation and the establishment of an EMMENA Research and Innovation Platform
The Chairman of the PHAETHON Centre of Excellence (CoE) Board of Directors, Prof. Constantinos Christofides, held a productive meeting on 29 April 2026 with the Hon. Consul of Bahrain, Mr Nicholas K. Tofarides, in Nicosia. The meeting formed part of the Centre’s ongoing series of contacts with Embassies and diplomatic missions of Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa (EMMENA) countries based in Cyprus.
During the meeting, Prof. Christofides presented the Centre’s vision, as well as its key activities, highlighting the mutual benefits of collaboration with universities and research centres from the EMMENA region. This cooperation is expected to help address common regional challenges in the field of green energy through joint research, innovation, training, and educational activities.
The initiative foresees the development of a Sustainable Energy Research and Innovation Platform for the EMMENA region, coordinated by PHAETHON CoE, with Cyprus serving as a hub for dialogue and cooperation among regional stakeholders. The Platform aims to foster structured collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the development of joint initiatives in sustainable energy.
In this context, PHAETHON CoE plans to organise a workshop in Cyprus in autumn, with the participation of representatives from universities, research institutions, and other stakeholders from across the EMMENA region. The workshop will aim to explore potential areas of collaboration and define clear next steps to advance engagement within the Platform.
Mr Tofarides welcomed the initiative and expressed his readiness to facilitate connections with entities in Bahrain interested in joining the EMMENA Platform.
