UCY and PHAETHON CoE: Strategic Cooperation in High-Impact Energy R&I

On Tuesday, 3 February 2026, the University of Cyprus (UCY) and the PHAETHON Centre of Excellence (R&I Centre of Excellence for Intelligent, Efficient and Sustainable Energy Solutions, PHAETHON Ltd) formalised the institutional framework of their collaboration, confirming a shared strategic direction in the field of energy aimed at strengthening research excellence, innovation, and the green transition, with a focus on high-impact solutions.
The collaboration reflects the shared vision of the University of Cyprus and the PHAETHON Centre of Excellence to advance scientific excellence, promote sustainable development, and accelerate the green transition.
The cooperation framework provides, inter alia, for the joint use of research infrastructures, the development of research and educational activities, participation in competitive funding programmes, and the strengthening of international networking. By prioritising high-impact solutions, the partnership contributes to the transition towards a sustainable and resilient energy future for Cyprus and the wider region.
The partnership with UCY strengthens the Centre’s role as a key driver of research and innovation in intelligent and sustainable energy solutions, contributing to Cyprus’s green transition and a resilient energy future.
It is noted that the PHAETHON Centre of Excellence is made possible under the “Teaming for Excellence” action of the Horizon Europe programme, with funding of €15 million from the European Union, €20 million from the Republic of Cyprus, and institutional support from the University of Cyprus, now formalised through the signing of this agreement. The project involves esteemed consortium partners, including Cyprus Seeds, the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), and the University of Groningen.
