PHAETHON delegation visits UCY Apollon PV Plant and its newly commissioned BESS

A PHAETHON delegation visited the UCY “Apollon” PV Plant and its newly commissioned Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) last week, together with colleagues from the UCY Technical Services.
The PHAETHON delegation was led by the CEO of the Centre, Professor George E. Georghiou, with Dr. George Makrides, the Centre’s Director of Operations, also present. Accompanying the PHAETHONITES were Mr. Costas Charalambous, Senior Engineer, and Mr. Nicolas Chamatsos, Technical Services Engineer.
The commissioning of the BESS on campus is a huge milestone for the University of Cyprus in its quest for self-sufficiency, as well as a national first, paving the way for enhanced grid stability and seamless renewable energy integration. It should be noted that this is the largest BESS in Cyprus with a 3,3 MWh capacity.
The PHAETHON Centre of Excellence is proud to be part of this green transformation, working diligently alongside the UCY Technical Services and contributing at all stages to transform the University of Cyprus into a Smart Energy Campus.
The project is co-funded by the EU within the framework of the Cohesion Policy Programme “THALIA 2021-2027”.
