PHAETHON 5th Project Meeting Advances Momentum as Partners Convene in Cyprus

The Consortium Partners convened in Cyprus once again for the 5th Teaming Project Meeting, held on 24–25 November 2025 at the University of Cyprus (UCY). The meeting brought together representatives from UCY, the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), the University of Groningen (UG), and Cyprus Seeds (CS) for two days of presentations, workshops, and strategic discussions on the progress and next steps of the PHAETHON Centre of Excellence.

Day 1: Opening, Work Package Updates, and Workshops

The meeting opened with a welcome by the PHAETHON Project Coordinators, Professors Constantinos Christofides and George E. Georghiou (UCY), who expressed their appreciation for the partners’ continued commitment to driving the transformation of PHAETHON into a world-class Centre of Excellence dedicated to intelligent, efficient, and sustainable energy solutions.

The morning sessions focused on Work Package progress and the way forward, comprehensively covering WP1 through WP4. Following a networking lunch, participants engaged in Workshops (Part 1), including a dedicated session on Task 3.3 – Scientific Training Programme, led by Dr. George Makrides.

Day 1 concluded with wrap-up remarks by Prof. Georghiou, followed by a working dinner that fostered further collaboration among the partners.

Day 2: Innovation, Smart Energy Systems, and Strategic Preparations

Day 2 continued with further Work Package updates, covering WP5 through WP7. The subsequent Workshops (Part 2) focused on two key areas: a) Task 5.1 – Innovation Hub Establishment, and b) Preparatory Work for the December 2025 Ad-hoc Review.

Prof. Georghiou delivered closing remarks, summarising progress and outlining the next steps for the Consortium. The day concluded with the PHAETHON Steering Committee Meeting, gathering all Principal Investigators and the Deputy Project Manager for strategic deliberations.

As the PHAETHON initiative continues to accelerate, the 5th Project Meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of all partners to advancing the Centre of Excellence and supporting its mission to shape the future of sustainable energy research and innovation in Cyprus and beyond.
