This position is part of the established strategic partnerships of the PHAETHON CoE with both the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and the University  of Groningen. Thus, the selected candidate(s) will have the opportunity to  collaborate with the two institutions. This a great opportunity to gain valuable  experiences for scientific purposes and expand their network.

The Researcher – Recognized Researcher (R2) is a PhD holder or equivalent who contributes  independently and collaboratively to high-level research and innovation activities within  PHAETHON CoE. Operating under the guidance of senior research staff, the R2 researcher is  expected to develop and implement substantial research work, contribute to publications,  and support project development aligned with the Centre’s mission in sustainable,  intelligent, and green energy systems. This role supports career development through  advanced research engagement, skills enhancement, and increasing independence.

Reporting

The Recognised Researcher reports to the Group Leader within the different research units  or senior researcher and collaborates closely with other team members on ongoing R&I  activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and evaluate research tasks and experiments that align with  project goals and contribute to scientific advancement.
  • Conduct original research and contribute to the development of new knowledge,  tools, or systems within the relevant field.
  • Prepare high-quality scientific publications, reports, and presentations for  international audiences.
  • Support the preparation of funding proposals by contributing technical input,  literature reviews, and methodological design.
  • Present findings at conferences, workshops, and consortium meetings, and coauthor papers.
  • Mentor or supervise early-stage researchers (R1) and interns where appropriate.
  • Contribute to open science practices, data management planning, and the  dissemination of results.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders, including academic  and industry partners.
  • Contribute to the dissemination of research outcomes and educational activities.
  • Contribute to the development of educational programmes related to the research  activities of the lab.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent research experience in any field of Engineering, Computer  Science, Physics, Mathematics, Environmental Sciences or any other related  field with a grade of at least a 2.1 class or equivalent.
  • Proven ability to conduct independent research and contribute meaningfully to  collaborative projects.
  • Strong background in data analysis, scientific writing, and research methodologies.
  • A growing record of peer-reviewed publications or applied innovation outputs.
  • Familiarity with national and European funding frameworks (e.g. Horizon Europe).
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written); knowledge of Greek is considered an asset.

  • Artificial Neural Networks, expert systems and applications to the field of energy.
  • ICT applications in the field of energy.
  • Green Hydrogen Technologies.
  • GIS systems.
  • Programming in Python especially for energy related applications.
  • Previous experience in research programmes

Employment Terms

Initially, a one-year contract will be offered, with a 6-month probation period, which is  renewable based on performance. The monthly gross salary for full-time employment is in the  range of €2000 – €3600. From this amount, employee contributions to the Cyprus government  funds will be deducted. Maternity leave will be granted based on Maternity Protection Law  1997(Ν.100(Ι)/1997), and the existing amendment laws. The 13th salary is incorporated in the  monthly salary.
