The Education & Training Director will have a strategic leadership role in designing, developing, and implementing PHAETHON CoE’s education, training, and upskilling activities. The position is responsible for shaping the Centre’s educational vision and ensuring excellence across academic programmes, vocational training, and continuous professional development (CPD). The successful candidate will lead the Education & Training Department, ensuring that educational activities are fully aligned with PHAETHON’s research and innovation mission, stakeholder needs, and European best practices in energy-related education.

Reporting

The Education & Training Director reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PHAETHON CoE and works in close collaboration with the Executive Management Committee, the Research Department, and the Operations of the Centre.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the Education & Training strategy, while establishing and leading the department, ensuring strong performance and long-term sustainability.
  • Develop and manage the departmental budget, ensuring effective planning, execution, and monitoring of education and training activities.
  • Oversee and coordinate key academic programmes, including Joint Masters and PhD initiatives in collaboration with UCY, DTU, and the University of Groningen.
  • Design, implement, and oversee high-quality educational and training programmes aligned with the Centre’s research and innovation priorities.
  • Ensure curricula and training activities reflect emerging energy technologies, sustainability objectives, and digital skills needs.
  • Establish and manage strategic partnerships with universities, industry, and public sector organisations for joint educational initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of education and training projects, including externally funded programmes, to support the sustainable growth of the department.
  • Lead capacity-building and upskilling activities for researchers, professionals, and staff through targeted learning pathways.
  • Represent PHAETHON CoE in national and European education and training initiatives, partnerships, and consortia.
  • Coordinate and contribute to proposal preparation and the acquisition of external funding (e.g. Erasmus+, Horizon Europe).

Required Qualifications

  • PhD or Master’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in academia, research, or higher education leadership roles.
  • Proven academic profile with experience in curriculum development, teaching, or academic programme coordination.
  • Strong understanding of the intersection between education, research, and innovation, particularly in energy or sustainability domains.
  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken).

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience in designing and implementing lifelong learning, professional training, and upskilling programmes.
  • Experience in European-funded programmes, particularly Erasmus+ and/or Horizon Europe.
  • Ability to translate research outputs into educational programmes and trainings.
  • Strong network within academic, research, and European education ecosystems.
  • Experience in building partnerships (universities, industry, EU consortia).
  • Dynamic and proactive personality with the ability to initiate new programmes and secure funding.
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills with a results-oriented mindset.
  • Knowledge of Greek will be considered an advantage.

Employment Terms

Two (2) year full-time employment contract will be offered, including a six (6) month probation period, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. Employment will be governed by the applicable institutional policies and Cyprus labour legislation. Statutory leave entitlements, including maternity leave, will be granted in accordance with the Maternity Protection Law of 1997 (Ν.100(I)/1997) and its subsequent amendments.
