PHAETHON CoE Chairman Meets Ambassador of Jordan to Advance EMMENA Energy R&I Platform

Discussions focus on regional energy cooperation and research collaboration across the EMMENA region.

The Chairman of the PHAETHON CoE Board of Directors, Prof. Constantinos Christofides, held a fruitful meeting on 5 March 2026 with H.E. Mr. Basheer Fawwaz Al Zubi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Nicosia. The meeting formed part of the Centre’s initiative to establish an Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa (EMMENA) Research and Innovation Platform.

During the meeting, Prof. Christofides presented PHAETHON CoE’s vision and mission, as well as its key activities, highlighting in particular the benefits of establishing a Sustainable Energy Research and Innovation Platform for the EMMENA region, coordinated by PHAETHON CoE.

The initiative foresees collaboration with universities and research and innovation (R&I) institutions across EMMENA countries, with Cyprus serving as a hub for dialogue and cooperation, the organisation of regional meetings, and the preparation of studies addressing common regional challenges in the field of green energy.

In autumn, PHAETHON CoE plans to organise a workshop in Cyprus with the participation of representatives from universities, R&I institutions, and other stakeholders from the EMMENA region. The workshop will aim to explore potential areas of collaboration and define clear next steps.

His Excellency the Ambassador welcomed the initiative and expressed his readiness to facilitate connections with entities interested in supporting the development of the EMMENA Platform.
