Our Summer Internship 2026 Programme is now open for applications!

Each year, the PHAETHON Centre of Excellence (CoE) provides the opportunity to a select cohort of undergraduate students in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or any other relevant field, to expand their skillset and gain real-world experience, as part of a tailored and career-enhancing Summer Internship at the University of Cyprus.

Join us for an impactful and inspirational Summer Internship at a top-ranked university, working alongside like-minded peers from across the globe, under the supervision of academics and researchers dedicated to advancing the Energy Transition.

More Than an Internship:

A Cultural & International Experience

At PHAETHON CoE, we view our Summer Internship Programme as more than an academic or research opportunity. Alongside hands-on research and technical training, interns become part of a vibrant, international community at the University of Cyprus.

Throughout the programme, interns may take part in a range of social and cultural activities, including informal meet-ups with fellow interns outside laboratory environments, as well as organised cultural and social experiences. These activities offer opportunities to explore Cyprus, engage with local traditions, and experience Mediterranean life, enriching the overall internship experience.

Interns join a diverse cohort of students from across Cyprus, Europe, the UK, the USA, and beyond, fostering intercultural exchange, collaboration, and long-lasting professional and personal connections.

Useful Information

Financial Support & Practical Benefits

PHAETHON CoE aims to ensure that interns can fully focus on their learning, research, and personal development during their stay. Financial support and practical benefits may be available, depending on the internship scheme, funding arrangements, and agreements with the intern’s home institution.

Such support may include, where applicable, contributions towards travel or subsistence costs, as well as practical or in-kind benefits (for example, meal or campus-related support). The form and level of support are determined on a case-by-case basis and in accordance with applicable funding rules and institutional policies.

Accommodation & Visa Guidance

PHAETHON CoE provides guidance to successful candidates on practical matters related to their stay in Cyprus, including accommodation options and visa or residence permit procedures, where applicable.

While interns remain responsible for arranging their own accommodation and travel, the PHAETHON team offers support and orientation to help international interns navigate local processes smoothly and settle quickly into life at the University of Cyprus

What Our Interns Say

I really enjoyed my summer internship at PHAETHON. The project was fascinating, the other people around the office and lab were lovely, and it was great being in an environment where I was able to socialise and make friends with the other likeminded interns. I think anyone aiming to learn more about the intersection of photovoltaics with sustainable
energy would get a lot out of being involved with this research group.

Undergraduate Student in Engineering, Cambridge University, UK

I worked as an intern and had an amazing learning experience regarding photovoltaic systems. PHAETHON has a very welcoming workplace environment and has treated me like family over the course of my internship. I was surrounded by students and researchers who were pleased
to help me out when I had a question. I made many friends here, and I would highly recommend working at PHAETHON if given the opportunity.

Undergraduate Student in Electrical Engineering, TEXAS A&M University, USA

I have been collaborating and studying at the PHAETHON Research Centre and I have to say that it was a really good experience. There are really good researchers there. I learnt a lot about photovoltaic technology and this experience helped me with my Thesis. I also felt part of the group and I met wonderful people there. I really appreciate their help and I wanted to take the time to thank you. It is highly recommended.
